Favorite Reading Excerpt:7/12/11

After reading all three stories, I think I enjoyed reading about Malcolm X. I want to get his autobiography because I'm interested in the whole picture, and reading his whole journey. I really didn't like reading the Mike Rose because it was really sad. I mean for a regular student to get stuck in a voc. ed classroom/ environment as a mistake is absurd, and for them to keep him there for 2 years is unheard of. It really weighs down his confidence within himself. Malcolm X had a hatred for white people, and knew nothing else for a long time. Then he went to prison and began to read.. he read everything which gave him a vast knowledge base. He left prison a well educated man. He still did not like "the white man", but it wasnt hatred for all white people. It turned into a hate for the way some white men treated their slaves. How horrible they were to people that were equal to them in every way, except for the fact that at that time people were very ignorant and racist. people who helped the slaves and fought for their freedom were looked at as outcasts and traitors.  Nowadays racism still goes on, but those people are the ones that look stupid, not the other way around.
